You'll Get a Straight Answer About What It Needs

A garbage disposal is a small thing — until it quits and the whole kitchen comes to a stop. Then comes the worry: is this a quick fix, or a whole new unit? Are you about to get talked into something you don’t need?

Here’s the honest truth about garbage disposals: most of them aren’t built to be repaired. When the motor’s burned out or it’s leaking from the bottom, fixing it isn’t really an option — it needs to be replaced, and we’ll tell you that straight. When it’s just jammed or the reset has tripped, that’s sometimes a simple fix — and if it is, we’ll show you. Either way, we know which one you’re dealing with the moment we look.

We’ll give you different solutions in plain terms, you’ll know the cost up front before we touch anything, and you’ll make the call yourself. No pressure. No surprises.

Some of The Common Garbage Disposal Problems We See

A garbage disposal can go wrong in a handful of familiar ways. Here’s the work we take care of every week:

  • It won’t turn on, or it hums without spinning. Could be a tripped reset, something jammed inside, a loose electrical connection — or a motor that’s just shot. We find out which it is and tell you straight.
  • Water leaking under the sink. If it’s coming from the body of the unit, the disposal is failing and needs replacing. If it’s a fitting or a connection, that’s often a straightforward repair. We track down where it’s actually coming from. We are leak finding experts.
  • It trips the breaker or has stopped grinding. Usually a sign the unit is worn out. We’ll be honest about whether it’s worth keeping or time for a new one.
  • It still runs, but you’re tired of babying it. The smell, the noise, the jams every other week — plenty of folks would rather replace the disposal than wait for it to quit perminantly. We can swap it out before it leaves you in a jam(pun intended).
  • A new disposal, installed right. When it’s time to replace, we put in a professional grade unit, intall and connect it properly, and haul the old one away. Easy-peasy.

Common Questions We Get Asked

Can someone come out today?

In most cases, yes. A real person answers when you call, gets your details, and gets you on the schedule — so you’re not stuck with a sink you can’t use, waiting days for a callback.

Can my garbage disposal be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

Most of the time, replacement is the honest answer. Disposals aren’t really built to be taken apart and rebuilt, so when the motor is gone or it’s leaking from the bottom, a new unit is the dependable fix. If it’s something minor like a jam or a tripped reset, that can sometimes be sorted without replacing it, and we’ll tell you when that’s the case.

It just stopped working — is there anything I can try before I call?

Worth a shot first: there’s usually a small red reset button on the bottom of the unit — press it and see if that brings it back. Check that the wall switch and the breaker are both on, too. If none of that does it, give us a call and we’ll take it from there.

How do I know if mine needs to be replaced?

The usual signs are water leaking from the body of the unit, a hum with no spinning, the breaker tripping when you run it, or a disposal that won’t turn on at all. Any of those is worth having looked at — once we’re under the sink, we’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth keeping.

How long does it take to put in a new one?

A straightforward replacement usually takes an hour or so. We bring the unit, install it, make sure it’s plumbed correctly, running right, and clean up before we leave.

What’s this going to cost me?

It depends on whether you need a simple fix or a new unit — which is exactly why we look first instead of guessing at a number over the phone. Once we’ve seen it, you get a clear estimate up front, and you decide how you want to move forward. Nothing happens until you say so.

Do you haul the old one away?

Yes. When we install a new disposal, we take the old unit with us and leave the cabinet under your sink clean. You don’t have to deal with getting rid of it.

Mine’s old but still works — should I just replace it now?

That’s your call, and it’s a fair question to ask. Plenty of folks would rather swap out a disposal that’s getting loud, smelly, or jamming often than wait for it to quit at a bad time. Either way, we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth replacing now or fine to leave a while longer.
